Consumption Series
Sexuality, consumption, and symbolism, are themes in my photographs. Flemish still life and Vanitas of the sixteenth and seventeenth-centuries heavily influence my images. The combination of both the still life and the figurative work in a singular series gives room to deconstruct meaning from the themes of consumption and sexuality. By literally showing the consumption of knowledge, and how these ideas begin to manifest once consumed. The work is to present vanitas in a theatrical manner to complicate them within the realm of sexuality augmented by the figure. The work is meant to toggle between the lines of masculinity and femininity. I introduce elements, which are not traditionally within the plane of allegory or vanitas; it puts the images in more contemporary plane for a contemporary audience.
