Artist Statement: This body of work is to express my observations about masculinity and the influence of feminism on the modern male psyche. I am the subject, performer, and creator of the images. I develop personal identity through the performative act of image making. The images contain objects that are associated as male or female, which are personally and historically symbolic. This body of work illuminates how men are adapting to changing domestic roles through the exploration of the traditional feminine tropes and representations of gender roles. In the exploration of this domestic space I want to address duplicitous messages that occur between the masculine and feminine. As a male primarily raised by my mother and by my sisters, I am influenced by feminist thought . I create images within the subtext of the representation of the feminine. Addressing the artifice of gender and domestic roles as a male who is between the boundaries of gender and identity. Opposed to literal representations of male and female spheres, I depict internalized thoughts of domesticity.
